Whitfield & Brown is delighted to mark the official opening of St David’s Place, Eldon Street in Preston – a purpose-built supported living development designed to empower residents to live independently within a safe and welcoming community.
Following our earlier project completion announcement, it was a real pleasure to be invited back for the grand opening, where we had the opportunity to see first-hand how the development is already making a meaningful difference to residents’ lives.
A Warm Welcome to a New Community
Seeing residents settling into their new homes was a proud moment for everyone involved in the project. St David’s Place has been thoughtfully designed to provide comfort, accessibility and long-term durability, with 14 high-quality supported living apartments, alongside:
- A spacious communal lounge
- A dedicated community space
- Fully landscaped external areas
- Off-road parking
Together, these features create an environment that promotes independence, wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging.
The event itself was a fantastic celebration of this new community. A real highlight was a live performance from James, one of the residents, whose talent and confidence perfectly captured the positive spirit of the development and what it represents.
Working in Partnership with Affinity Trust
We are proud that the scheme will be operated by Affinity Trust, a highly respected social care provider and charitable organisation.
With over 30 years of experience, Affinity Trust supports people with learning disabilities, autism and other assessed needs across England and Scotland. Their purpose – supporting people to live their life, their way – is closely aligned with the ethos behind this development.
Their values underpin everything they do:
- People are at the heart of everything they do
- They give their best, recognising that what they do truly matters
- They work together, valuing strengths and differences
- They have courage, continually adapting and innovating
As a registered provider with the Care Quality Commission, Affinity Trust brings expertise, compassion and a person-centred approach that will ensure residents receive the support they need to thrive in their new homes.
Collaborative Delivery
The success of St David’s Place is the result of strong collaboration between Whitfield & Brown and our trusted partners:
- Architect: John Bridge
- Quantity Surveyor: Thornber & Walker
- Engineer: Reid Jones Partnership Ltd
From initial design through to completion, every element was carefully considered to meet the specific requirements of supported living – ensuring the building is not only practical and durable, but genuinely enhances the day-to-day lives of residents.
Creating Spaces with Purpose
Supported living developments require a thoughtful and sensitive approach to design and construction. At Eldon Street, this has been achieved through:
- Practical, user-focused layouts
- Energy-efficient materials and modern construction methods
- Communal areas that encourage social interaction
- Attractive landscaping to promote wellbeing
These features combine to create an environment that is both functional and uplifting, supporting long-term sustainability while delivering real social value.
A Development to Be Proud Of
St David’s Place represents another important addition to Whitfield & Brown’s growing portfolio of supported living schemes. It demonstrates our ongoing commitment to building high-quality facilities that have a lasting, positive impact on communities.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project to life – your professionalism, collaboration and attention to detail are evident throughout.
Looking Ahead
As residents continue to settle into their new homes, we look forward to seeing the long-term impact that St David’s Place will have on individuals and the wider community.
This development stands as a strong example of what can be achieved when experienced teams come together with a shared purpose – to create spaces that truly support people to live independently and confidently.
