Delivering 100% Social Rent Homes and Transforming a Brownfield Site into a New Community Asset

Whitfield & Brown is proud to announce the successful completion and handover of the White Lion development in Swinton, Salford – delivered for ForHousing as part of a wider programme to bring much needed affordable homes to the city.

The scheme provides 18 new apartments – 100% for social rent – comprising:

  • 13 one-bedroom homes
  • 5 two-bedroom homes

Each property benefits from private parking and onsite EV charging, supporting both accessibility and sustainable living for new residents. The project officially welcomed tenants into their new homes this week.

A Much Needed Response to Local Housing Demand

The new homes come at a vital time for Salford. The local authority has seen growing demand for secure, affordable housing, with thousands of households waiting for suitable accommodation. High quality schemes such as White Lion form a crucial part of the solution, providing safe, modern and affordable homes within the community.

Supported by £1.3 million of Homes England funding and £270,000 from the Brownfield Housing Fund, the development transforms a previously unused brownfield site into a vibrant new residential setting that will benefit local people for years to come.

Delivering Quality Through Strong Partnerships

This project has been a collaborative effort, delivered with:

  • Client: ForHousing
  • Architect: Bernard Taylor Partnership (BTP Architects)
  • Engineer: Shape Consulting Engineers

Together, the team has created an attractive and sustainable development that enhances the local streetscape and aligns with Salford’s wider regeneration ambitions.

A Positive Impact for the Community

From the outset, White Lion was designed to provide more than new homes. The scheme:

  • Created new construction job opportunities locally during delivery
  • Contributed to wider neighbourhood regeneration
  • Provides a long-term supply of truly affordable housing
  • Supports sustainable travel through EV charging provision

As Salford celebrates its centenary year, this development stands as a meaningful investment in the city’s future – offering high-quality, secure homes and forming part of a thriving new community.

Proudly Building for Salford
