Integrated primary care facility combining GP, pharmacy and dental services.

KEY FEATURES
Whitfield & Brown delivered Fir Park Medical Centre in Widnes, creating a modern two-storey primary care facility that brings GP, pharmacy and dental services together within a single, purpose-built healthcare environment. The £3.2 million scheme provides high-quality clinical accommodation designed to support integrated healthcare delivery for the local community.
The new facility consolidates a range of primary care services, enhancing access to healthcare and creating a central hub for GP consultations, treatment and specialist services within a growing residential area.
The building has been carefully designed to promote efficient patient flow and clear navigation between services. The ground floor accommodates eleven GP consultation rooms, nurses’ rooms, treatment and training spaces, alongside pharmacy provision and dedicated dental accommodation.
First floor areas provide administration and support offices, staff facilities, records storage and a practice manager’s office, ensuring that both clinical and operational functions are effectively integrated within the building.
The layout supports a coordinated model of care, enabling multiple services to operate efficiently within a single setting while maintaining a high standard of patient experience.
Designed by The Griffiths Thompson Partnership, the medical centre features a contemporary architectural approach, using a palette of materials and finishes to create a modern and welcoming appearance.
Distinct entrance points are clearly defined through the use of varied coloured renders, providing clear identity and orientation for patients accessing different services within the building.
The structure incorporates a steel frame, precast and in-situ concrete floors, and a combination of flat and pitched roofing systems, delivering a durable and efficient healthcare facility. The project achieved a BREEAM “Very Good” rating, reflecting its strong environmental performance and commitment to sustainable design.
External works formed an integral part of the scheme, including the provision of 46 patient and staff parking spaces and the creation of safe, well-defined pedestrian routes linking the facility to the surrounding area.
Additional works included drainage, access roads, boundary treatments and landscaping, ensuring the site is accessible, functional and well integrated within the local community.
Located within a residential setting, the project required careful planning and coordination to manage construction activities safely while minimising disruption to surrounding residents.
“We are absolutely delighted the scheme is finally going live. Nothing would bring more joy than for it to become a flagship healthcare facility in the community and to further support this, we already considering to introducing a dental or eye care specialist.”
