Whitfield and Brown delivered refurbishment and remodelling works to laboratories and dark rooms on the second floor of the Biosciences Building at the University of Liverpool. The project formed part of the University’s framework programme and required minor demolition along with careful coordination to maintain continuity for the department. To minimise disruption the contract was divided into two phases on either side of the corridor. Phase one was completed in five weeks and involved internal demolition to create larger laboratory spaces installation of new laboratory furniture and benches redecoration upgraded mechanical and electrical systems and improved air conditioning and ventilation. A new glazed partition was installed to protect new generation DNA and gene sequencing equipment. Phase two commenced after partial decant and delivered further laboratory refurbishments new mechanical and electrical installations and a UV system to safeguard testing environments.
