Whitfield and Brown were appointed to construct a new net zero compliant environmental centre and depot within Alexandra Park in Oldham replacing the ageing service facility. The project formed part of the wider Northern Roots urban park initiative which is a one hundred and sixty acre regeneration scheme combining green space community activity and sustainable infrastructure. The new facility includes a two storey office building of around twelve thousand square feet heated by air source heat pumps and designed to showcase environmentally friendly technologies. Additional structures such as a glasshouse for plant cultivation and refurbished storage units were delivered alongside hard and soft landscaping to support operational and community use. Positioned next to the Northern Roots urban farm and learning zones the centre will accommodate Oldham Councils environmental services team and provide space for events education and community engagement while supporting long term net zero ambitions.
